KARACHI (Dunya News) - The Sindh government has decided to seek assistance from the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) to curb the spread of fake and misleading information.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the Sindh Information Department chaired by Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon. Information Secretary Kashif Gulzar Sheikh, Director General Information Moez Pirzada and other senior officials attended the meeting.
The senior minister directed the Information Secretary and directors of all departments to closely monitor fake news and develop an effective media strategy to counter misleading information.
Memon said attempts to harm any individual or institution through false and misleading information would not be tolerated.
He directed the department to seek NCCIA's assistance in identifying and taking legal action against those involved in creating and spreading fake news. He also ordered daily monitoring of mainstream and social media through modern technology.
The minister said an effective monitoring mechanism would be established within the Information Department to identify, verify and address fake news in a timely manner. He also called for greater coordination between the Information Department and the NCCIA to tackle misinformation.
Memon said the Sindh government's narrative was based on peace, tolerance, inter-provincial harmony and national unity.
He directed the department to take additional measures to strengthen and effectively communicate the government's narrative through modern media platforms.
The senior minister further instructed officials to involve representatives of different segments of society in the government's communication efforts.
He said the Information Department should focus not only on monitoring fake news but also on effectively promoting the Sindh government's positive and constructive narrative.
