Punjab to set up new department to tackle orgnised crime

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Punjab government has decided to set up a new department to control organised crimes.
During meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the formation of CCD was approved.
The department will utilise all advanced technologies, including drone surveillance, to curb seven major crimes, including robbery, extortion, rape, murder and theft and land mafia.
The CCD will also manage crime-related data and act against criminal networks.
The department will be led by an Additional Inspector General, with three DIGs, SSPs, SPs at divisional headquarters, and DSPs in each districts.
A total of 4,258 officers and personnel will be part of the CCD, with 2,258 officers immediately transferred from Punjab Police.
The chief minister also approved buildings, vehicles, and modern equipment for the department, along with immediate legislation for its legal framework.
