Local government elections in Quetta will be held on December 28 across 641 wards, with 2,541 candidates in the race after withdrawals, says Election Commission.

QUETTA (Dunya News) – Preparations for local government elections are underway in the provincial capital Quetta.

According to the Provincial Election Commission, local government elections will be held on December 28 across 641 wards of 172 union councils in Quetta. Nomination papers of 2,870 candidates submitted for the elections have been declared valid.

An Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) spokesperson said that 329 candidates have withdrawn their nomination papers. As a result, a total of 2,541 candidates remain in the race for the local government elections in Quetta.

Similarly, no nomination papers were submitted in 18 wards of Quetta. In Zarghoon, local government elections will be held in 46 union councils and 161 wards. In Lyari (Lytton/Letan), elections are being conducted in 46 union councils and 173 wards.

The spokesperson further said that local government elections will be held in 38 union councils and 145 wards of Sariab, while elections are also taking place in 42 union councils and 142 wards of Takatu.
