Summary Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi agreed to use constitutional mechanisms to protect the province from terrorism and maintain law and order.
PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi have agreed that constitutional institutions should play their role in protecting the province from terrorism and maintaining law and order.
Naqvi held an important meeting with Governor Kundi at the Governor House in Peshawar on Sunday. The meeting was attended by the chief secretary and inspector general of police.
According to an official statement, the meeting focused on the political and security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including the law and order situation and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) long march.
The governor and interior minister agreed to play their constitutional role to help protect the province from terrorism.
The statement said that if the president and prime minister considered governor's rule or an emergency necessary, the Governor House would perform its constitutional role.
The meeting also discussed the use of government resources during the PTI long march. According to the statement, using a government helicopter or other state resources for the march would violate court decisions.
According to sources, the top cop in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa briefed the interior minister on the province's security situation.
The IGP said police remained on high alert amid uncertainty in different parts of the province. Police personnel from various districts had been called to police lines, while a strategy had been prepared to deal with any emergency situation.
