Reluctant Sindh gives nod to Agricultural Income Tax Bill 2025
KARACHI (Dunya News) – After the federal cabinet gave its approval, the Sindh Assembly on Monday unanimously approved the Sindh Agriculture Income Tax Bill 2025.
In the Sindh Assembly meeting chaired by the Deputy Speaker, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Zia-ul-Hassan Al-Najjar presented the bill which was approved by the house.
On this occasion, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said the Federal Board of Revenue wanted put the blame on the farmers’ community that the latter did not pay their taxes. He said the FBR failed to collect taxes due to massive and deep-seated corruption.
He said that the SRB has always achieved its target with agricultural tax in place for thirty years.
However, the CM added a little caveat in the bill : the tax should not be increased directly from 15 percent to 45 percent as "if the farmer does not grow crops, there is always a risk of supply and demand." Therefore, he said there is room for improvement in the agricultural tax law.
During the session, the MQM-P also supported the bill with its party leaders saying the bill was approved on the condition of IMF but 'we have been saying so for the past forty years."
