Summary JI chief Hafiz Naeem warns of long march if government fails to provide relief and withdraw petroleum levy after renewed talks.

LAHORE (Web Desk) - Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said the party would launch a long march if the government failed to contact it and provide relief to the public, while reiterating its demand for withdrawal of the petroleum levy.

Addressing a press conference in Lahore, Hafiz Naeem said inflation and rising petrol, electricity and gas prices had made life difficult for the public. He said JI had launched a nationwide signature campaign against the petroleum levy and would march towards Islamabad after securing more than 20 million signatures, with caravans joining from southern Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He said several rounds of talks with the government had produced no result and urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to intervene. Hafiz Naeem also criticized IPP capacity payments, government spending and interest rates, and called for talks with PTI over its demands, including issues concerning Imran Khan's health, hospital transfer and meetings.
