LAHORE (Muhammad Ashfaq) - Punjab Prosecutor General Syed Farhad Ali Shah has directed the authorities to implement section 22 of Anti-Rape Act.

In a letter to Punjab IGP, the prosecutor general said it had not been resorted to for the last four years. “Those who file fake rape cases will go to jail,” said PG.

According to section 22 of Anti-Rape Act, the officers who conduct poor investigation and those who file fake rape cases will face prosecution. But the law is ignored as a result of which the number of fake rape cases are rising day by day.

Mr Shah ordered full implementation of section 22 of Anti-Rape Act according to which three-year imprisonment will be served to those who file fake rape cases and officers who will condcut poor investigation will be imprisoned.

“In rape cases several things need to be taken into account. During trial most of the rape cases prove fake, therefore, section 22 of Anti-Rape Act should be resorted to against such individuals,” says legal expert Quratul Ain.

A case can be filed against those who pursue fake rape cases and they can be imprisoned up to three years but unfortunately there is little awareness about the relevant section of the law.

Retired Justice Ibadul Rehman corroborated a lack of implementation of provisions like section 22 of Anti-Rape Act led to increase in the number of fake cases and improper or poor investigation.
