Bar associations announce drive against transfer of provincial judges to IHC
Pakistan
Term the decision an 'attack' on independence of judiciary
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Islamabad High Court Bar Association (IHCB) and Islamabad Bar Association (IBA) have announced a campaign against transfer of three judges from other provinces to Islamabad High Court (IHC).
In a joint statement issued here on Saturday night, Islamabad Bar Council vice chairman and other members condemned the notification issued by the Law Ministry for the transfer of three judges from Lahore High Court (LHC), Sindh High Court (SHC) and Balochistan High Court (BHC) to Islamabad High Court (IHC) and termed the decision an 'attack' on independence of judiciary, which they said weakened the representation of lawyers from Islamabad.
The statement said the lawyers opposed the decision and announced a drive against the appointment of the judges.
It said the bar would start a drive against the decision in order to resist such ‘unfair’ transfer of judges.
The Islamabad High Court Bar Association and Islamabad District Bar Association have convened a session on Sunday (today) at 11am.
The members of the cabinet of the bar associations will also take part in the meeting.
The meeting will decide future plan of action with regard to the transfer of judges from other provinces.
